Empowering Women Through Digital Literacy: DigitHER Abuja Training

In a transformative effort to equip women with essential digital skills, the DigitHER Abuja Training took place from the 27th to the 28th of November 2023 at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja. This impactful two-day event was hosted by the Nigeria Women Economic Development division of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and served as a pivotal platform for empowerment and innovation.

Day 1: A Journey of Inspiration and Learning

The opening day commenced with a keynote speech encouraging participants to embrace upskilling as a tool for personal and societal transformation. Representatives from the Nigeria Women Economic Development division delivered additional keynote speeches and goodwill messages, setting a tone of inspiration and purpose.

A representative from the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs highlighted the vital role of such training in empowering women economically and socially.

The training began in earnest with a session on Instagram Optimization and monetization strategies. Participants were guided through hands-on exercises, followed by a Q&A session to clarify concepts.

Adding to the program’s depth, a representative from the Department of State Security provided essential insights into security considerations in the digital space. The day concluded with a session on financial literacy, equipping participants with fundamental knowledge for their entrepreneurial endeavors.

Day 2: Advanced Learning and Empowerment in Action

Day two built on the foundation laid on the first day, with sessions focusing on WhatsApp Business optimization and creating effective WhatsApp links to expand business reach. Participants also learned about the Business Model Canvas, which offered practical strategies for planning and sustaining their ventures.

The day’s highlight was a breakout session where participants, grouped by their respective local government areas (Abaji, Abuja Municipal, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali), selected brand ambassadors to represent their communities. Five outstanding women were recognized for their excellence and awarded brand-new smartphones to enhance their connectivity and business operations.

Closing with Empowerment and Opportunity

The donation of mobile devices, facilitated by the Office of Nigeria Digital Innovation (NITDA), marked a significant moment in the training. These devices symbolized both a reward for the participants’ dedication and a strategic investment in their future success.

In closing remarks, participants were commended for their commitment and encouraged to leverage their newly acquired digital skills to drive innovation and growth in their communities.

A Legacy of Empowerment

The DigitHER Abuja Training was not just a workshop but a movement to empower women, providing them with the skills, resources, and confidence to excel in the digital age. As these women step forward, they carry with them the tools to foster business growth, champion digital literacy, and drive positive change within their communities and beyond.

The event underscored the transformative power of equipping women with digital knowledge and connectivity, leaving an indelible mark on the journey toward an inclusive and empowered society.
