Empowering Women in Kaduna: The DigitHER Initiative

In the heart of Kaduna State, the DigitHER Initiative unfolded on the 1st and 2nd of December, marking days 8 and 9 of the 16 Days of Activism. Hosted at the Colab Innovation Campus, this transformative event aimed to equip women with digital skills and financial empowerment, creating a lasting impact on participants and the community.

Day 1: Inspiring Talks and Empowering Sessions

The event commenced with a keynote speech emphasizing the importance of financial independence for women and how the DigitHER Initiative can act as a catalyst for positive change.

A presentation followed, providing an overview of DigitHER’s mission, goals, and the benefits it offers participants. Speakers highlighted the power of social media and its role in building successful ventures, while another session explored the financial potential of WhatsApp, equipping participants with strategies to harness this platform for growth.

The day concluded with an introduction to the Business Model Canvas, offering practical tools for business planning and sustainability.

Day 2: Virtual Learning and Empowerment in Action

Day two began with a recap of the previous day’s sessions, preparing participants to deepen their understanding and skills. The training featured virtual and in-person sessions, including topics such as Instagram for business, financial literacy, and the importance of collaboration and community support to sustain the digital ecosystem in Kaduna State.

A breakout session assessed participants, recognizing the top five performers with smartphones as a reward for their dedication. These devices were provided not only to promote participants’ businesses but also to ensure ongoing communication and support, including a channel for quick responses to address and prevent violence in their communities.

Fostering a Legacy of Empowerment

The event concluded with remarks celebrating the participants’ achievements and encouraging them to utilize their new skills and tools to transform their communities. The two days in Kaduna went beyond training, building a community of empowered women ready to harness digital technology and financial literacy to create a brighter future.

As the DigitHER Initiative continues its mission, the impact of its efforts in Kaduna is set to ripple across the lives of these women and their communities, establishing the state as a hub for empowered and digitally literate women.
